"Account temporarily disabled"
This means Coinbase wants a security review. Typical triggers are signs that the account was targeted by an attacker, a problem during account recovery, or the user clicking a link in a Coinbase email to report activity they didn't recognise.
What to do: secure your email account and 2FA first, reset your Coinbase password, then contact Coinbase support with the date of your last legitimate login and details of any transactions you didn't make. Coinbase indicates it aims to complete such investigations within about 10 business days. Coinbase help: account temporarily disabled.
"Account restricted"
A restriction usually blocks particular actions — buying, sending, withdrawing — until Coinbase gets more information. Coinbase's guidance is to sign in, try the restricted action again and answer the questions shown on screen; your answers are then reviewed. Coinbase help: resolve your account restriction.
Common reasons include incomplete or mismatched verification, a reversed card or bank payment, activity that doesn't match your profile, and transfers to or from addresses with risky on-chain history. Answer the on-screen questions consistently with your earlier verification data — contradictions are the most frequent reason a restriction stays in place.
Enhanced due diligence on Coinbase
Coinbase's user agreement allows it to suspend, restrict or close accounts at its discretion — for example on suspicion of money laundering, terrorist financing or fraud — and it is not obliged to tell you the reason. For enhanced due diligence it may ask for additional information and supporting records about your source of wealth and source of funds, and in some cases a call with its staff. Prepare a structured statement and documents before you answer: our free generator gives you the format.
If Coinbase closes your account
Under Coinbase's user agreement (the Canadian version, which we reviewed — other regions may differ), you can generally transfer your assets for 90 days after the account is deactivated or cancelled, unless the law, sanctions or a court order prevent it. Remaining fiat goes to your registered bank account, and Coinbase may ask you to verify your identity again first. Don't let the 90-day window run out. Coinbase user agreement (Canada).

Will Coinbase tell me why my account was restricted?
Not necessarily. Its user agreement says it doesn't have to disclose the reason, which is why identifying the likely trigger yourself matters.
Can I withdraw my crypto if Coinbase closes my account?
Generally yes, for 90 days after closure under the user agreement we reviewed, unless legal restrictions apply.
