What you see — and what it usually means
| What you see | Usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Withdrawals paused after changing password, 2FA or device | Automatic security hold, typically 24–48 hours | Wait. It can't be lifted early — and don't try to work around it. |
| Withdrawal disabled, "abnormal activity" | Risk-control flag on your activity or a specific transfer | Contact support via chat, ask which activity is under review, prepare explanations |
| Anti-scam questionnaire or cool-down period | Binance suspects you may be the target of a scam | Answer the questionnaire truthfully; if someone is "guiding" you, stop and talk to support |
| Request to complete additional verification (EDD) | Enhanced due diligence — source of funds / wealth review | Prepare a complete document pack before submitting (see below) |
| Restriction linked to a legal or regulatory order | Law-enforcement or regulatory hold | Usually not appealable through support; may need a lawyer and formal correspondence |
Binance says it notifies users of restrictions it imposes by email, SMS or in-app message, and shows a pop-up at the next login. Keep screenshots of every notice — the exact wording helps identify the type of review.
How to appeal a Binance restriction
- Failed identity check on withdrawal: Binance provides an Appeal button on the withdrawal page (in the app under Wallets → Spot → Withdraw). If you don't see it, contact support.
- Restrictions imposed by Binance: contact Customer Service through the official chat inside the app or website, ask for the case to be reviewed and keep the case number.
- EDD requests: complete them in your account's identification / verification section, not by email attachments sent to random addresses.
Binance itself states that not every restriction can be appealed — particularly those connected to law-enforcement requests or regulatory requirements. Binance help: withdrawal restrictions.
EDD: source of funds and source of wealth
Enhanced due diligence on Binance typically asks for a politically-exposed-person declaration, a source of funds explanation (where the money on the account came from) and a source of wealth explanation (how your overall assets were built), with documents for each. Binance indicates that EDD reviews usually take 3–10 business days, longer for complex cases or resubmissions, and that some features may stay limited until the review is complete.
Evidence Binance lists for typical sources includes: recent payslips, an employment letter or salary bank statements; exchange statements or blockchain records for crypto; financial statements or tax returns for business income; and contracts or wills plus bank statements for sales, loans, inheritances and gifts. Our free source of funds letter generator builds the matching structure.
Document rules Binance applies
- Documents must be in your own name.
- PDF, JPG or PNG — Word and Excel files are generally not accepted.
- Good resolution (around 300 DPI), all four corners visible, no cropping, filters or edits.
- Screenshots of online banking should show the full page, including the web address and date.
- Many documents (statements, proof of address) should be dated within the last three months.
Most rejected submissions fail on these formal points, not on substance. Binance: what are source of funds and source of wealth.
P2P-related freezes
P2P trades can lead to frozen bank accounts or Binance restrictions when a buyer's payment is disputed, charged back, flagged by a bank's AML checks or covered by a court order. Binance states it is not a party to P2P trades, so you will need evidence from both sides: order IDs and chat logs from Binance, and written evidence from your bank about the freeze. Binance support asks for video proof in some P2P cases — a recorded video rather than a screen recording.
HTX and sanctions-related reviews (2026)
After the UK sanctioned HTX's operator in May 2026 and the EU added HTX to its sanctions list from 23 August 2026, Binance said that transactions involving HTX would be subject to extra compliance review, and later stopped processing transactions with HTX and several other sanctioned platforms. Deposits that can be traced to these platforms may trigger wallet restrictions. If that's your case, the key is documenting when and why you interacted with the platform and showing that the funds have a lawful origin.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a Binance account review take?
Security holds last 24–48 hours. Binance indicates EDD reviews usually take 3–10 business days after a complete submission; complex or resubmitted cases take longer.
Can Binance keep my funds?
Funds are typically held only where there is a legal order or unresolved compliance concern. In most closures, users can withdraw their remaining balance after additional checks.
Should I open a new Binance account while mine is restricted?
No. Creating another account breaks Binance's terms and usually makes the original case much worse.
Someone on Telegram says they can unlock my Binance account. Is that real?
No. Only Binance can lift a restriction. Anyone offering an "unlock" for a fee or asking for your login is a scammer — see the warning signs.
