Gate describes risk-control freezes as usually preventive. Keep screenshots of every message, because the exact wording identifies the type of review. Gate help: account frozen due to risk control.
Why Gate restricts accounts
- Login anomalies: Gate lists frequent logins from different countries or regions and sudden IP address changes as freeze triggers.
- Suspected rule violations: Gate names suspected money laundering and using bots for high-frequency trading as examples.
- Flagged withdrawals: Gate's risk system can hold suspicious withdrawals for manual review before they are sent.
- Terms and legal grounds: Gate's user agreement allows suspension when the law requires it, on suspected breach, fraud or money laundering, during pending investigations, or when a user gets around controls, for example with multiple accounts.
- Restricted locations: Gate says users in restricted locations must stop using its services (see below).
- Closure without a stated reason: the agreement also allows Gate to close an account with 45 days' notice. The decision can rest on confidential risk criteria that Gate doesn't have to disclose.

How to resolve each type
Contacting Gate support
Gate's official route is the support icon in the bottom-right corner of the website. Log in first so the agent can see your account. The chat bot answers first; to reach a person, type "Live Support" and click "Connect to Live Support". The site footer also has a "Submit Ticket" link. Describe the problem in detail, quote any error message, attach screenshots and keep records of the conversation. Gate help: how to contact customer support.
KYC required or verification rejected
In the app, go to Profile → KYC (Identity Verification) → Verify Now. You will need a valid ID in your own name and facial recognition. Gate says the name, document number, nationality, residence and ID type must match your document exactly. Uploads must be clear JPG or PNG files of 10 KB to 4 MB, with no glare, watermarks or obstructions. Gate says the review usually takes a few minutes, and manual reviews take longer. If you're rejected, the page shows the reason and you can correct it and resubmit.
Address verification is optional, but Gate says it may still require it for compliance, higher limits or security reviews. Once verified, a flagged withdrawal generally clears manual review within about half an hour, according to Gate. Gate: how to complete identity verification · Gate: "KYC Required" when withdrawing.
Enhanced due diligence (source of funds)
Gate's European help centre describes EDD as a mandatory regulatory requirement. You estimate your total net wealth, confirm your main source of funds and upload matching evidence. Gate's examples include three months of payslips or salary statements, six months of statements for savings, and trading history with profit-and-loss statements for crypto investments. Gate warns that missing its deadline can lead to suspended transactions or termination. Gate EU: Enhanced Due Diligence verification. Gate US (the separate platform for US users) lifts account protection on email request, with a photo of you holding your ID and a dated handwritten note showing your UID and name. Gate US: removal of account protection.
What still works while restricted
During a 24-hour security hold only withdrawals are paused. Under a risk-control freeze, Gate says deposits, withdrawals or orders may fail. You can usually still log in to read notices and talk to support, so use the time to build one complete, consistent document pack. If your bank account was frozen after a P2P trade, Gate's P2P guidance says to work with your bank or the authority that imposed the freeze. Gate: frozen bank accounts from P2P trades.
Account closed: withdrawing your assets
Gate's user agreement sets out what happens when Gate closes an account:
- If your balance is above Gate's "Minimum Closure Threshold", you can withdraw to an external address you choose, subject to verification. No other transactions are allowed during that period.
- The deadline is the one in Gate's notice, or 60 days from the closure notice if none is given. Assets not withdrawn in time may be forfeited.
- Balances at or below the threshold are forfeited. Locked, staked or lent assets may be liquidated at market prices.
- Gate may run enhanced and source-of-funds checks first, but says it should not unreasonably delay a withdrawal.
- If you close your own account, you can withdraw all your assets, minus any outstanding fees.
The agreement also allows Gate to treat an account with no login or activity for two uninterrupted years as dormant. For balances above the threshold, Gate says it will try to email you first, and unclaimed assets may be forfeited 60 days after that first contact. Keep your email current.
Restricted locations. Gate's list includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Singapore, Japan and others. Gate says the list isn't exhaustive and can change without notice. Gate: restricted locations.
Common mistakes
- Opening a second account. Gate's terms name multiple accounts as a way of getting around controls, which makes the case worse.
- Hiding your location with a VPN. Changing IPs and countries is itself a freeze trigger, and restricted-location rules still apply.
- Details that don't match. Names, dates and document numbers must match your ID exactly; mismatches are a common reason for rejection.
- Missing deadlines. EDD and closure windows are enforced. Note every date Gate gives you.
